Tips for Dealing With
and Disposing of Leftover Dryvit
Finishes, Base Coats and Coatings
(Printer

With
landfills rapidly reaching capacity, a major environmental concern is the
disposal of waste.
- Carefully
estimate the amount of material needed for each project to minimize the need
to dispose of excess materials. Contact a distributor or Dryvit
representative for assistance in determining the right quantity for each
paint project.
- Leftover
finishes, coatings or primers should never be poured down sanitary sewers or
storm sewers.
- Finishes
and coatings containing sand should be allowed to harden and produce solid
waste, for disposal by refuse haulers. If the pail containing these materials is less than half full,
remove the lid and allow the water portion to evaporate in a secure area,
away from children and animals.
If the pail is more than half full, add Portland cement
and allow the mixture to harden in the pail. Allow the material to dry completely and leave the lid off
the pail, demonstrating to the refuse hauler that the waste is solid.
For
further information on “waste disposal,” contact your state government
environmental control agency or local health department for assistance in
finding waste disposal programs in your area.
Check for “waste disposal services” in the Yellow Pages; they also
may provide you with additional guidance.
