Everyone is increasingly aware of the effects of pollution and is looking to industry to act responsibly. Many chemicals with potentially harmful effects on the environment and public health have been identified, and a variety of regulatory agencies require industry to track, report and dispose of these materials in a safe and controlled manner. Dryvit Systems has a long track record of taking an active role in developing and implementing those solutions. The environment is important to Dryvit, not just to government and environmental groups. Long before the “green movement” entered the vernacular, Dryvit Systems made a commitment to reduce or eliminate any harmful impact on the environment from our operations and products.

• Dryvit Systems has never used lead-based pigments in any finishes or coatings.
• Dryvit Systems eliminated use of mercury-based biocides in all products–before the EPA banned the use of mercury.
• No solvent-based coatings have ever been manufactured in any Dryvit plant. 
• Dryvit Systems EIFS and exterior finishes exhibit extremely low VOC levels.
• VOC levels of textured finishes are much lower than most exterior latex paints!

This affords the specifier an opportunity to select a truly environmentally friendly option for an exterior wall system, and solvent-based materials can’t be used at some later time for recoating - they’re incompatible and cannot be used!

All four U. S. plants have developed procedures to protect the environment not only for the manufacturing process, but also non-manufacturing areas such as packaging.  Today, due to this program:

• Water is recycled from liquid wastes and re-utilized.

• Paper packaging and wooden pallets are recycled. 

• Recycled paper is used for packaging in dry bagged goods. 

Of course, all plants comply with all EPA, SARA, and state hazardous material reporting and material disposal requirements.  Electrical energy consumption is reduced by switching off the lighting in unused meeting rooms and offices. 

Looking to the future, Dryvit Systems, Inc. continues to explore ways to increase the quality of all products while maintaining compatibility with the environment and provide recommendations for jobsite material disposal and recycling. Building on the sound practices of the past, Dryvit Systems, Inc. looks to provide a framework that will facilitate the achievement of continually improved environmental management practices. Dryvit Systems’ efforts to produce quality coatings – while ensuring that our products are manufactured and used in an environmentally sensitive manner – are on going.  It is a long-term voluntary commitment to the environment and to the people who manufacture, sell and use our products.
