“Build it and they will come” was the vision behind the construction of the St. Mary and St. Mena Coptic Orthodox Church outside of Providence, Rhode Island in 2009. To welcome a growing congregation, the structure was complete with a 38-foot diameter gold dome and twin 72-foot bell towers. Over 15 years after the Dryvit cladding was installed, the building stands just as radiant.
To achieve the sustainable design and exterior aesthetics they were after, the Outsulation Plus MD system with a Sandpebble® finish enabled the construction team “to eliminate the cavity insulation and place the thermal barrier on the outside of the wall where it is far more effective,” explained the architect, Tracey Donnelly of Robinson Green Beretta. This continuous insulation means improved energy efficiency and reduced operational costs.
The distributor also noted that “the use of a lightweight cladding system allowed the church to save money on structural steel framing. The fact that a single subcontractor was able to install the air and weather barrier, insulation and decorative finish components saved time, money and the potential scheduling and equipment headaches.”
Today, the St. Mary and St. Mena Coptic Orthodox Church showcases how Dryvit systems seamlessly blend sustainability, cost efficiency and timeless beauty to create a lasting landmark for the community.
