Frequently Asked Questions

All Dryvit Outsulation® systems offer integral air and weather barriers. Notably, this includes the Outsulation Plus MD (OPMD) system specified with Securock® ExoAir® 430 sheathing which delivers a factory pre-applied air and weather barrier as part of the EIFS assembly, eliminating the need for a separate field-applied WRB. Because the air barrier membrane is applied to the Securock® ExoAir® 430 sheathing at the factory before it arrives on site, the air-control layer is already in place with no dependence on field conditions, substrate prep sequencing or separate trade coordination.

Key benefits of this approach include:
- Securock ExoAir 430’s factory-applied barrier eliminates field sequencing risk and inter-trade coordination gaps
- Single-source warranty covering air control, weather resistance and finish
- Tested compatibility between adhesives, coatings and barrier materials confirmed at the Tremco CPG Building Science Laboratory
- Air infiltration performance validated to ASTM E2178 and ASTM E2357
- Coordinated tie-ins at window and door rough openings for a continuous building envelope

The most reliable approach is to use a system where the air barrier and insulation are designed, tested and warranted together by a single manufacturer. Dryvit's Outsulation® Plus MD (OPMD) specified with Securock® ExoAir® 430 sheathing takes that further by delivering a factory pre-applied air and weather barrier on the sheathing panel itself, so the air-control layer is fully in place before the EPS insulation board is ever installed — with no dependence on field conditions or separate WRB trade sequencing.

When air barriers and insulation come from separate manufacturers, compatibility testing, joint detailing and warranty coverage all become project risks. Dryvit removes that risk with tested whole-wall assemblies validated at the Tremco CPG Building Science Laboratory.

Best practices for air barrier integration include:
- Confirm the air barrier is continuous across the full wall plane, including at all transitions to windows, doors, roof edges and penetrations
- Extend the barrier fully into window and door rough openings to connect with flange tapes or pan flashing
- Lap seams with a minimum 2-inch overlap, embedded in wet material where required
- Seal all penetrations, including conduit, pipe sleeves and fasteners, before the insulation board goes on
