Situated on the Myrtle Beach coastline, the new Holiday Inn Club Vacations Resort offers guests a luxurious oceanfront experience with 152 units and top-tier amenities. This coastal gem not only provides breathtaking views but also demonstrates smart exterior design and material choices to meet the demands of its challenging environment.
The original specification for hard coat stucco proved unsuitable for the harsh coastal conditions, raising concerns about water intrusion, durability and long-term performance of the building envelope. The contractor advocated for EIFS for a more resilient cladding system but faced hesitation from the architect about this alternative building material.
In the end, Dryvit’s EIFS with continuous insulation and moisture drainage was approved as the ideal solution. This wall cladding system ensured energy efficiency and resiliency while eliminating numerous caulk and control joints. The exterior finish also preserved the design vision and the EPS foam was creatively cut to mimic the previously specified horizontal planks for some of the balcony areas.
The transition to Dryvit EIFS and its 10-year warranty gives peace of mind that this stunning Myrtle Beach resort will maintain its function and aesthetics for years to come with reduced maintenance and improved energy performance. Earning an Award of Merit in the Hospitality category of the 2024 EIMA Hero Awards, this project stands as a model of sustainable design and waterfront construction using EIFS.
